Elevator Pitch

April 15, 2016 | Uncategorized | No Comments

I understand that including the questions would not be part of a direct elevator pitch.  Since I am in the discover and testing phase I wanted to to include them.

What am I excited about?

I am developing a business to help people design a serenity room in their home.

Why am I excited about it?

Stress is a normal part of life and affects our mental, physical and spiritual health. I am excited about helping people maintain health and wholeness.

How will it help people? Who does is serve?

A serenity room can be used to reduce stress and calm and energize individuals of all ages. From day-to-day stress, to children and adults with special needs, the serenity room can improve communication, decrease stress and replenish the spirit.

How does it uniquely tie into my story, passions, talents and/or experience?

My passion is interior design and architecture.  My mission is creating healthy, relaxing and safe environments that fit an individual or family’s style and purpose.

Why do I care and why should the world care?

When we take care of ourselves we will have more time, energy and love to give to those around us. People who feel whole are better thinkers and creators. You can see evidence that the world cares.  Serenity rooms are part of college campuses, hospitals, and places of business.  Your home is where your heart is and a serenity room can keep your heart happy.

“Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest and grandest responsibility. It’s about listening to the needs of your soul and then honoring them.”

What is one thing I am proud of?

April 14, 2016 | Uncategorized | No Comments

One thing I am proud of is teaching myself AutoCad Architecture and then designing and building homes. Being extremely passionate about something and following through is a big accomplishment for me.  Designing homes for other people and watching a drawing on paper become an actual house is very satisfying. The design process gives me a lot of freedom when drawing a spec home. A spec home is a home a builder constructs with the belief that someone will eventually come along and want to purchase the home. This is can be a huge risk for the builder. I was very fortunate that there were always buyers for the homes I designed.

Now that our economy is getting back on its feet, I want to pick up where I left off a few years ago with architectural design. Drawing detailed blueprints based on a client’s preference is helping them build their dream home. Creating and design is what I like most. Healthy home and energy efficiency options are my focus when it comes to choosing building materials. Pets make it fun to incorporate their needs into the design and integrating a serenity room is now a standard in planning.

The finish work and interior design process is tremendously enjoyable. For spec homes I picked out colors, textures, flooring, trim, light fixtures and even windows myself. I’m not too crazy about painting, but I really like to tile. Adding character and interest to a house can be challenging. There are so many choices!

Why a Serenity Room?

April 13, 2016 | Uncategorized | No Comments

A few years ago I found myself running on auto pilot.  You know that feeling of completing a daily routine that makes you wonder “Why am I doing this?”  Kinda like the Dunkin Donut guy that met himself coming and going.  I was spread too thin and had so much on my plate that I felt fragmented.

My husband and I were building houses and working full time jobs.  I did the design and he built the houses. We built a total of four with three of these my design.  The last house I designed I included a Serenity Room.  My thoughts at this point were centered around finding some relief from daily stress. Day dreaming of a sandy white beach and a crystal blue ocean.  Some magical get a way where stress and chaos does not exist.  Why not integrate a Serenity Room in my design?  A retreat right in the home that could provide a place to meditate, create music, read and dance.  The stress relief ideas seem endless.   I am sure that I saw this idea somewhere and wanted to include it in my design.

Why a Serenity Room? To decrease stress and replenish the spirit.

Seeking refuge from the hustle and the bustle. Wanting a quiet little corner or room to center yourself after a day of noisy living. Yearning for a special place to renew and recharge your energy level and find balance. For those of us who are looking for peace of mind, we really don’t have to look too far.

You can always go to your “Happy Place” using the power of mind over matter. This could be a temporary solution, maybe. I suggest that we create an environment that we can retreat to. Let’s surround ourselves with color, comfort and create a place of peace.

My goal is to have fun and be creative. Creating a Serenity Room in my home is my journey and hopefully in the process provide help and support for others.
